Instock is giving away tomatoes

It’s hot, and restaurants are feeling it too. Not only because they’re all suddenly sweating rivers, but also because the produce is struggling and spoils faster. What a shame, thought Instock.

Instock’s motto is to produce as little food waste as possible, or to prevent food waste by using surplus products from supermarkets. At the moment, they’re collecting 6 million snack tomatoes from tomato grower Greenco that won’t make it through next week because of the sun and heat. Wrinkled and bruised, but definitely still perfectly edible.

Free of charge
The restaurant posted a call on Facebook yesterday asking Conscious Dutch people to help them get rid of six million tomatoes. How? You can pick them up for free at all Instock locations (Amsterdam, The Hague and Utrecht). All you have to do is indicate how many kilos you want and show up with a bag (or five) during the weekend of August 3, 4 and 5.
What are you supposed to do with them?
To get through kilos of tomatoes, you can make a delicious gazpacho, a killer tomato sauce or a tarte tatin with tomatoes. Plenty of choice, so there’s no reason not to save these tomatoes from destruction. Hello, karma points.
