It’s a Royal Tiki Wedding!

FFroyalwedding

When you think of a royal wedding, you think of stiff banquets with tastefully set Wedgewood plates and a classic wedding cake. None of that at the royal wedding of the year, Harry and Meghan’s on 19 May. Food trucks! A Tiki bar! And a lemon and elderflower wedding cake!

The fact that Prince Harry is about to marry a former blogging and Instagramming ‘lifestyle influencer’ will not go unnoticed in England. No boring, predictable dishes, tea and cake. Instead, the wedding celebration will have a high hip factor. Not according to the official channels, by the way. But according to insiders leaking information to the media.

Tiki cocktails

The Express reports that Meghan and Harry’s reception will end with a parade of food trucks packed with trendy late-night snacks, including several ice cream trucks at around two in the morning. The Mirror, meanwhile, reports that the reception itself will have a Tiki theme, modelled on one of Harry’s favourite London nightclubs, Mahiki. Alongside Tiki cocktails served in Easter Island-style ‘glasses’ and incorporating plenty of pineapple, apache shooters (including Kahlua and Baileys) will be passed over the bar and across tongues. And there will be a vodka luge: an internally lit ice sculpture with a hole through which vodka is poured into glasses (or straight into royal throats): the ultimate party hit.

The lemon and elderflower wedding cake will be styled with fresh flowers

So much for party animal Harry’s influence. When it comes to the wedding cake, health babe Meghan Markle has managed to ensure that instead of the classic, understated cream-coloured tower, a lemon and elderflower cake in spring colours will be cut, covered with a layer of buttercream and styled with fresh flowers. It will be made by the trendy organic patisserie Violet Bakery, run by Californian flower child Claire Ptak. And this information is 100 per cent true, because it was released by Kensington Palace itself.

Kale smoothies

It is well known that Meghan likes sustainable, organic, healthy and delicious food, such as kale smoothies and quinoa. That is why London society caterer Table Talk Catering was brought in for the entire execution and coordination of the wedding’s culinary side; the company also catered William and Kate’s and Pippa’s weddings.

It is a shame that little of the food and drink will probably make its way onto Instagram and other social media. No members of the official press have been invited to the unofficial part, after all. So we will have to wait for ‘leaking’ guests.
