Jumbo is now selling Smoked Eggs and you really want to try them!

You have white eggs, brown eggs and smoked eggs. Smoked eggs? Yes, indeed—in Australia, where the idea of smoked eggs originated, they are a huge hit. And now you can also buy these particularly delicious Smoked Eggs at Jumbo.

Smoked—how does that work?
Smoked Eggs are eggs that are cold-smoked in their shells, allowing the shell to take on the aroma and flavour of the smoke. By carefully coordinating the time, temperature, humidity and volume of smoke, a smoky aroma and a rich yet subtle flavour are created. A Smoked Egg is a fresh and therefore still raw egg, and you can use these eggs just as you would regular eggs.
You can boil, fry or poach them, or use them in mayonnaise, hollandaise sauce or quiche. Your dish immediately gets a fuller flavour. Or give your recipe a surprisingly delicious twist, for example by using Smoked Eggs in your Pavlova. Need inspiration? Here you’ll find some delicious recipes with Smoked Eggs.
Extra-long shelf life
Besides its delicious, refined flavour, the egg has other benefits too. For example, Smoked Eggs have a much longer shelf life than regular eggs, helping to reduce waste. Research in Australia has shown that after eighteen weeks at a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, a smoked egg contains virtually no bacteria, whereas a fresh egg contains 21 million bacteria. What’s more, no water is used when smoking the eggs, which also keeps the environmental impact to a minimum.
Jumbo Food Markets
Jumbo is the first major Dutch supermarket to start selling Smoked Eggs. I wouldn’t be surprised if many supermarkets followed suit. You pay €2.99 for 6 and €4.99 for 10.
