Just eating tapas: coughing up €390…

Having a nice time eating tapas somewhere sounds like a perfectly good idea. But not during corona, because apart from your own garden or balcony, you can’t do that anywhere else. Well, according to some people, you should simply be able to. And that resulted in a bill more heavily seasoned than the spiciest Spanish snack imaginable.

Tapas bar Bienvenida in Waddinxveen was open this weekend despite the nationwide ban (can someone explain this to me?!) It ended up costing the owner and the visitors dearly. The police raided the establishment and issued everyone a ticket.
Expensive tapas
The 27 visitors had to cough up a mega-bill for their tapas. They were given a fine of no less than 390 euros! The owner will receive a separate fine, the amount of which has yet to be determined. Bienvenida was also immediately issued a penalty payment: every subsequent time the business illegally opens its doors, it can expect a fine of 10,000 euros, rising to 50,000 euros.
Not amused
The municipality had already suspected that the establishment was operating illegally. The mayor of Waddinxveen was also not amused: “If people disregard these guidelines, we will take firm and immediate action”, he told Omroep West.
