Do you as a consumer also get influenced so easily when you’re in the supermarket? That’s probably due to one of these marketing trends. According to Adweek, these are the things you’re susceptible to.

Are you, as a brand, doing something with food? Make sure you produce ‘shareworthy branded bits’. When does something become shareworthy for consumers? It should contain humour, because brands especially shouldn’t take themselves too seriously.

Consumers demand authenticity

Consumers want to know exactly what they are eating and where it comes from. And they want brands that focus on environmental awareness, craftsmanship and ‘real’ food.

Cooking kids

It’s not without reason that MasterChef Junior is such a success. Children who cook perform well on every medium.

Culinary catwalk

Food and shopping are increasingly being combined to, especially, get millennials back into stores. Shoe shops where you can eat cake and coffee shops where you can get a haircut are experiences that you can’t really have online.

Special packaging

Packaging that can be turned into toys, ‘customized’ pizza boxes and Happy Meal boxes that can be converted into virtual reality headsets. In addition, packaging must also be environmentally friendly and informative.

Hot, hot, hot

Sriracha is just the beginning of a spicy revolution. New products need to be hot, exotic and incredibly spicy.

The same product, but ‘natural’

Green Cola containing no sugar but natural sweetener, Skippy peanut butter transforming into ‘Justin’s natural nut butters’: this trend is highly visible. But, despite major brands introducing natural versions of their already familiar products, consumers remain wary and suspicious. After all, the story behind the products is often not authentic, and that is precisely what people want.
