McDonald’s introduces McVegan

Fast-food giant McDonald’s introduces a vegan burger: the McVegan. The bun looks suspiciously similar to the popular Big Mac, but contains no meat, cheese, or dairy products.

The McVegan looks familiar and is comparable to the classic burger in terms of taste and texture, but without animal products. The burger consists of a bouncy bun topped with sesame seeds, a fried soy-based patty, vegetables (lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle), mustard, ketchup, oil, and a special McFeast sauce without egg.

New market

The idea for the ‘meatless burger’ was developed through a collaboration with Orkla, a food company from Norway that is helping the American chain better respond to the growing demand for vegetarian and vegan food.

The burger was first tested in October this year and has been available for purchase in Sweden and Finland since December 28. If successful, the burger will also be added to the menu in other countries. It is still unknown when it will become available in the Netherlands.
