Midnight grilled cheese sandwiches at Toast It

A crispy grilled cheese sandwich with cheese oozing out as soon as you take a bite. We mostly make ours at home in a pan, but Amsterdam locals can now satisfy all their grilled cheese cravings at a brand-new grilled cheese bar. At Toast It, you can have breakfast, lunch and – importantly – eat grilled cheese sandwiches until late into the night. This is definitely where we’ll be getting our midnight snack.

When you walk into Toast It, you briefly imagine yourself in 1950s America. Elvis is playing, there are ketchup bottles on the tables and the walls are mint green. They even have an original American retro milkshake machine, for when you want a fresh milkshake with your grilled cheese. And you do, because the milkshakes come with toppings like Oreos and cherries and are served in large American glasses.

Four cheeses on your grilled cheese

All grilled cheese sandwiches are served on sourdough bread with homemade sauces. For example, go loco with the El Pollo Loco, featuring pulled chicken, jalapeño, Sriracha mayo and onion. You can choose which cheese you want on your grilled cheese. And if you don’t want to choose, simply go for the Heaven 4 Cheese with mozzarella, Parmesan, gorgonzola and young matured cheese.
