Mind of a Chef: season 6

The Mind of a Chef is every foodie’s dream. Each season focuses on a chef, following all the twists and turns of their mind that lead to brilliant food. Our favorite season was the first one, in which we followed David Chang, but the latest season comes very close.

The mix of travel, history and a little bit of science makes the popular show interesting even for people who don’t think about food all day. You may have already binged the first five seasons on Netflix. In season six, we follow chef Danny Bowien, who is at the helm of the Mission Chinese restaurants in New York and San Francisco. The menu there is Sichuanese, but absolutely not authentic.

From Korea to China
Yes, you can also eat mapo tofu there, a quintessential classic Sichuan dish. But their most famous dish is kung pao pastrami, while in China, of course, no one has ever heard of pastrami. Danny was born in Korea but was adopted and raised in Oklahoma. In the series, he returns to Seoul in Korea, as well as Chengdu, the capital of the Chinese province of Sichuan. That mix of cuisines is wonderful to watch, and we find Danny’s mind enormously inspiring.
Facebook Watch
If you like spicy Asian food, you really have to start watching very soon. Fortunately, you can watch it all online. It isn’t on Netflix yet, but the season has been released on Facebook Watch.
