It’s been autumn for a while now: the leaves are falling from the trees, and scarves and thick coats are being taken out of the back corner of the wardrobe. When you get home in the dark on Friday afternoon after a long working week, you feel like having a drink. Time for bock beer.

Autumn bock is the Dutch answer to German bock. Nowhere else will you find this autumn-inspired beer. In Germany, they used to brew it only in spring. The beer’s dark colour and full-bodied flavour, however, make it a perfect match for autumn.

Bon Bon Bock
The difference between German and Dutch bock is that flavours are often added to the beer in the Netherlands. In classic bock, a clove flavour is considered a brewing error, but these days brewers think very differently about it. This year, for example, Uiltje came out with the ‘Bon Bon Bock’. With its hazelnut praline and chocolate flavour, this autumn bock deserves a fine fourth place in our top five.
