Never again a dead herb plant

You walk home full of optimism with yet another herb plant from the supermarket. Your newest specimen is still completely healthy, but then it happens: after a few days, it’s completely dead. Every time. Fortunately, there’s a clever solution to this familiar problem from Finland.

By day three, all the leaves are drooping and you think you can still save the plant with some water, plant food and extra love. But unfortunately, nothing helps. Another premature death. The reason is that herbs in Dutch living rooms often get too much water and too little sunlight. And that’s exactly what these plants accustomed to a Mediterranean climate—such as thyme and basil—need so badly.

The solution

The solution to this heartbreaking problem comes from Finland, a country where the sun shines even less than it does here. The company Tregren has developed a small planter with special active growing technology. What exactly does that involve? The pot contains a small reservoir that you fill with water, and a small pump then ensures that the water is distributed evenly across the soil. No more messing around with your watering can.
