Sometimes it seems as though only healthy juice bars and vegan joints are opening these days. Fortunately for fast-food lovers—everyone, in other words—more chip shops are still opening too. On 27 February, the newest location of Bram Ladage’s fry empire will open in Rotterdam.

The newest spot on Schiedamseweg is located in a former butcher’s shop. If you ever visited Gerard Nettenbreijer’s butcher shop, you might be sorry that you now have to get your meat somewhere else. But good news: Gerard isn’t going anywhere; he’ll be standing behind the fryer himself.

From butcher to fry king

He retrained from butcher to fry king by learning the trade at other Ladage franchise locations. That’s how he learned all the ins and outs of the profession. Turning a butcher’s shop into a chip shop does require some renovation, though. According to Gerard, the neighborhood is eagerly awaiting the unveiling. ‘‘Local residents can’t wait for the opening and regularly tap on the window to ask whether it’s nearly time’’, Gerard says enthusiastically.
