Now open: Bar Bitterbal

bitterballen met mosterd

Let’s face it, one portion of bitterballen is never enough. Two aren’t either, really. You’re often with a group, and what on earth are you supposed to do with two or three bitterballen? Exactly nothing. Luckily, Amsterdam now has Bar Bitterbal!

At the bar on Utrechtsestraat, there are no fewer than twenty types of bitterballen on the menu. Twenty! Of course, you can’t avoid the standard veal or beef bitterbal, but that’s not where it ends. Shrimp, Peking duck, wild boar and lobster are just a few of the balls we definitely want to try.

Vegetarian and vegan

Vegetarians (goat’s cheese, aged Reypenaer, beetroot), vegans (Thai coconut) and gluten-intolerant guests have also been catered for. To turn it into a complete meal, order a portion of fries with Parmesan cheese and truffle mayo as well, and you’ll easily hit your daily calorie intake in one meal. Exactly what you need when it’s been raining all day, I’d say!

Until late into the night

Another very nice thing: at the weekend, the kitchen is open until 2:30 a.m. We know where we’ll be heading after Friday afternoon drinks. You can simply keep the drinks flowing here too. There’s plenty of wine to choose from, but we’ll stick to a beer (or a speciality beer), because as far as we’re concerned, that’s the very best match for a crispy, piping-hot bitterbal. Cheers!
