OH YES: Venz is launching its own chocolate spread

Venz chocopasta

Hooray! Venz, known for hagelslag, flubbers and funnies—in short: your childhood—is launching its own chocolate spread. What am I saying, two of its own chocolate spreads: milk and dark. What. A. Celebration.

When I think back to the breakfasts of my childhood, I can vividly remember one thing: the moment our simple, brown Venz hagelslag was given a cheerful topping of flubbers and funnies. Man, what a time to be alive. My little brother and I battled daily over who would get the most funnies. The result: slices of bread buried under centimetres of hagelslag, sneaky hands in the kitchen cupboard and a mother who put a stop to it all, separated the funnies from the hagelslag and let us take a maximum of two at a time. Sweet, sweet memories.

Best of both worlds

By now, my flubber/funnie obsession has given way to something else: spreading and sprinkling. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I sprinkle hagelslag (preferably the dark Venz XXL) on my slice of bread/cracker/crêpe/ontbijtkoek already spread with peanut butter or chocolate spread. Some people shudder at that, I don’t care—I like it. So the fact that my favourite hagelslag brand is now launching its own chocolate spread is, for me, a kind of Spice Girls-When-2-become-1-meets-Beyoncé-Jay-Z-Crazy-in-love-meets-church-organ-HALLELUJAH moment. You get me?

Is all this a bit excessive for you? I get it. Of course, you can also simply choose: spread or sprinkle. Which team are you on? Team chocolate spread or team hagelslag?

You can find Venz chocolate spread at major supermarkets such as Albert Heijn, Coop, Deen, Deka, Dirk van den Broek, Hoogvliet, Jumbo, Plus, Poiesz and Vomar (€2.79, 600 grams).
