Panic: fears of a Nutella shortage

The world’s largest Nutella factory has looked remarkably like Willy Wonka’s for an entire week now: no one goes in, and no one comes out. The employees are on strike. And that’s cause for panic. Because what happens when the Nutella supply runs out?

Breathe in, breathe out… We’re going to explain step by step what happened to the production of your favorite spread on bread (or on your spoon, we’re not judging).
Strike
A large proportion of the employees at the factory, located in the French municipality of Villers-Écalles, have stopped working for an entire week. The factory produces a quarter of the world’s Nutella supply. That’s 600,000 jars a day, produced by around four hundred employees. Choc-ing! What are the employees demanding? Higher wages and a bonus.
More panic
It’s not just the jars of Nutella that are at risk; Kinder Bueno is also produced at this factory. Which means: not right now. While Nutella production is still running at twenty percent, Kinder Bueno production has come to a complete standstill.
It’s unclear how long the strike will last. Hopefully the employees will soon get what they want, and 600,000 jars of Nutella a day will once again roll off the production line. Happy employees, happy us. And if it really comes to the point where we’re faced with empty shelves, we can always make it ourselves.
