Police make unusual raid: no weed but… chicory?!
Police regularly organize so-called ‘hemp raids’ with the aim of dismantling multiple cannabis farms in a single day. But on some days, officers do not actually find what they expected. As happened yesterday in Geleen, Limburg.
Cannabis farm in their sights
For some time, the police had received several anonymous tips that there might be a cannabis farm at the specific address. The police began an investigation and carried out energy measurements that seemed to confirm their suspicions – electricity may have been illegally tapped. The officers’ attention was also drawn to a PVC pipe with a U-bend that emerged from the basement of one of the homes and was blowing out air. Enough evidence for the officers to take a look.
Buckets full of chicory
When they arrived at the home in question, the somewhat surprised female resident let them in. She fully cooperated, and the officers were allowed to look around everywhere. In the basement, officer Remy saw that a wooden structure had been built leading to the crawl space. ‘Bingo!’ After removing a plank, he expected to find a cannabis farm.
But imagine his surprise when he found buckets full of ready-to-harvest chicory. The man of the house grew chicory as a hobby. The female resident had forgotten to mention this. Quite an unusual discovery for the officers. Nothing else was found in the home to indicate cannabis cultivation, and there had been no electricity theft either, the police reported on Facebook.
The most ordinary thing in the world
Various people reacted rather astonished to this perfectly ordinary discovery. ‘My father also grew chicory in the basement. Unheated, though, resulting in very small heads, but beautifully white and very, very tasty!’
