Poop better? This is the number 1 snack you should eat

I once heard from a fellow student that she couldn’t poop for 10 days while on vacation. 10 days! The fact that she didn’t explode is a miracle. If only she’d known that all she had to do was snack on some of this ultimate snack…

It’s a bit of an understatement to say that not being able to poop is no fun. Nausea, a balloon-like stomach, stomach cramps and pain are just a few of the discomforts you get thrown in for free. There can be all sorts of reasons why you can’t push things out. Obviously, you may have some very unpleasant medical problems. But stress doesn’t exactly help either—which was apparently the cause in my fellow student’s case.
Another important reason (and perhaps the most common one) is a lack of fiber. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s exactly why this snack is such a tasty plunger.
The number 1 bowel mover: plums
If you want smooth bowel movements, there is actually a whole list of poopy foods you can eat and drink. Coffee, chia seeds and oat bran all work like a charm. But the number 1 bowel mover really is the plum. This sweet fruit is a little fiber bomb: one 40-gram plum contains 0.9 grams of fiber. So if you eat a few, you’ve already taken in quite a bit of fiber. Fiber stimulates bowel movement, allowing that turd of yours to move right along.
Plums also contain a sugar alcohol: sorbitol. It works like a mild laxative. Great when your intestines are as full as a sausage that’s about to burst out of its casing. A fun added bonus: plums are also fantastic if you want to lose a few pounds. Not only because they make you go to the bathroom more often, but also because they suppress your hunger. And you know the poop—er, drill. Less hunger = less eating = fewer calories = fewer pounds.
Plums are truly hard to resist
Fresh plums, dried plums and prune juice: they all work wonderfully for smooth bowel movements. You can of course eat them as a snack. Or incorporate them into dishes. For example, make a plum tarte tatin, or bake them with mascarpone, cognac and raw cane sugar. Whether they will also help you lose those pounds, we’ll leave that open for now.
