Popular barbecue restaurant from Antwerp is coming to the Netherlands

Slow-cooked, melt-in-your-mouth ribs, beer sausage, pulled pork or brisket. Does your heart beat faster at these meaty keywords? Then you’ll be very happy about the opening of Black Smoke in Rotterdam.

The restaurant owned by barbecue world champion and FavorFlav friend Jord Althuizen is already a resounding success in Antwerp and is now coming to the Netherlands after two years. Thank god! The enormous restaurant across the border has a cool bar, a large dining area and even a rooftop. Will the Rotterdam location be just as ambitious? Absolutely.

Huge premises
The former fire station where the restaurant is opening is no less than 1,000 square metres, so there’s room for plenty of barbecues. In Rotterdam, the kitchen takes its smoking and fire techniques—which come from all over the world—even one step further. Because the USA isn’t the only place where they know how to barbecue; we can also learn a great deal from South Americans.

Extra tasty

Extra much flavour, then, although we can hardly imagine it. I don’t know whether you’ve ever had one of Jord’s pulled pork sandwiches at a (food) festival, but that thing is already absolutely bursting with flavour. So delicious!

Hot & fast

At the current Black Smoke, the menu distinguishes between ‘low & slow’ and ‘hot & fast’, and this approach will also be used in Rotterdam. So alongside the aforementioned melt-in-your-mouth ribs, you’ll also find perfectly cooked scallops, just to name one example. And have you ever eaten ravioli filled with oxtail? The oxtail is cooked over oak wood for three hours, and the ravioli is served with bone marrow. Mmmmm.
