Pride Rainbow Extravaganza

Pride Amsterdam is just around the corner, which means one big rainbow extravaganza. In the food department too. What can you eat where next week?

Admittedly, I’m not much of a fan of ‘rainbowifying’ food. A grilled cheese sandwich tastes at least as good (if not better) without food colouring. But when you can make a statement for sexual freedom, I see it very differently. In fact, then I’d prefer to eat nothing but rainbows. A good time to find out where we can go next week.
Milkshake Festival
Pride Amsterdam week kicks off with the Milkshake Festival at Amsterdam’s Westergasterrein. Hotdog king Chez Jan will be selling ‘rainbow veggie dogs’ there, and organic fries stand Pomm’s is serving their fries for the occasion not with regular mayo, but with pink mayo.
TonTon Club
No ticket for the official Milkshake Festival? The TonTon Club (further on at the Westergasterrein) is organising its own literal milkshake festival. Besides their regular boozy milkshakes, they have created a Rainbow Milkshake for the occasion: vodka, strawberry ice cream, blue Smurf syrup, whipped cream, a candy cane, sour belt, sprinkles, ice cream cone and mini marshmallows.

Hema
Hema is getting in on the action too, giving their classic tompouce a new look from 28 July through 5 August. The normally pink treats will feature a rainbow for the occasion and will be festively packaged too (four for €4). They are only available at Hema stores in Amsterdam. Don’t live in Amsterdam? Don’t worry: you can also order them online and pick them up at the Hema near you. Another nice touch: the proceeds from all the tompouces will go to COC.

Do it yourself
Would you rather get to work yourself? Then definitely try these extremely cheerful LGBT cookies by Menno de Koning (Remember, the winner of Heel Holland Bakt 2014). Rainbow extravaganza guaranteed!
