Recipe: the iconic Marinara Meatballs from Jansz. restaurant

The Marinara Meatballs from Jansz. restaurant at the Pulitzer Amsterdam hotel in the Jordaan are legendary. Anyone who has ever eaten them knows what we mean. The juicy meatballs, combined with the delicious marinara sauce and the kick of lemon zest, make this dish an unparalleled explosion of flavor. The chef at Jansz. shared the secret recipe with us so that you can recreate it yourself.

How to make the meatballs
Mix all the ingredients, except the frying oil, in a large bowl. Use your hands to ensure that the mixture is well combined and make 8 small meatballs (as a cocktail snack), or 4 large balls for a full dinner. Heat a frying pan with the oil and slowly fry the meatballs over medium heat until golden brown.
How to make the marinara sauce
Finely chop the carrots, celery, garlic, tomatoes and onions. Put everything in a heated pan and fry briefly. Add the remaining ingredients and let simmer gently for 20 minutes. Purée and strain the mixture. Serve the meatballs with the sauce and finish with Parmesan cheese and lemon zest. Bon appétit!
