Refugee guest chefs at Marley Spoon

In December and January, eight refugees will put a dish from their country of origin on the Marley Spoon menu in the Netherlands. Alongside the recipe, the meal-box delivery service is also sharing the story behind the dishes and the food culture in their homeland through interviews with the guest chefs.

The chefs come from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. 100 percent of the profits from the dishes sold will go to the organization Über den Tellerrand in Berlin. They place food and exchange at the heart of what they do. In this way, they support integration into their new home country by having refugees cook together with local residents. The organization will also become active in the Netherlands in the short term.

Curious about the meals? The menu includes Syrian stuffed aubergines with bulgur, chickpeas and tomato, as well as a Pakistani curry with chicken legs, garam masala and fluffy rice. The FavorFlav editorial team gets to try two dishes and opts for Reza Ahmadi’s Afghan lentil soup with yogurt and the Arabic rice with chicken from Syria by Azad Sultan.
