Remarkable erotic cookbook by Salvador Dalí

Good news: Salvador Dalí’s book Les diners de Gala, filled with vintage recipes and erotic reflections on food, is being reprinted for the first time in decades.

Dalí didn’t want to be merely an artist, but also a great filmmaker and chef. In 1973, he published this remarkable book full of beautiful illustrations and recipes. The Spanish artist describes cooking in his book as the most delicate symbol of true civilization and dedicates the book to the pleasure of flavors. Pleasure in the broadest sense, because an entire chapter is devoted to aphrodisiacs, with recipes such as ‘Aphrodite’s’ purée, ‘Siren shoulder’ and ‘Casanova cocktail’ for when you’re tired but still have to work for a while.

Publisher Taschen has announced that it will sell the book for $59.99. That’s quite a difference compared with second-hand copies of the book, which are being offered on Amazon for nearly $700.
