Restaurants where you can stay overnight
No energy left to go home after that elaborate dinner? Here is a list of thirteen restaurants in the Netherlands where you can also spend the night.
Hotel New York – Rotterdam (South Holland)
A classic. I once slept in one of the executive rooms and never wanted to leave. You can book a room from €110. However, the special rooms are considerably more expensive. At this gem on the Maas, you can also enjoy high tea, eat oysters in the oyster bar and, since 2015, visit NY Basement in the basement of the building. This restaurant is smaller and more exclusive than the restaurant on the ground floor. So you can make it as expensive or as cheap as you like.
Café Modern – Amsterdam (North Holland)
Café Modern is located in an old bank building in Amsterdam-Noord. You can enjoy a set five-course menu there for €42.50. Above the restaurant, you can stay at boutique hotel Sweet Dreamz. A night costs approximately €90.
De Havixhorst – de Schiphorst (Drenthe)
A beautiful, old hotel in a castle near Meppel. The restaurant serves classic cuisine, using as many products from its own garden as possible. Packages can be booked from €125 per person.
De Heeren van Harinxma – Beesterzwaag (Friesland)
This restaurant is located on the Lauswolt estate. For the luxury lovers among us. After dining at this Michelin-starred restaurant, you can sleep in a five-star hotel on the estate. And there is a golf course. Don’t forget your wallet.
Piloersemaborg – Den Ham (Groningen)
A charming farm where goats, geese and sheep roam around you in the yard. Packages are available from €109 per person.
‘t Nonnetje – Harderwijk (Gelderland)
You can eat incredibly well at ‘t Nonnetje. It is not without reason that the restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars. In cooperation with the local Van der Valk, they offer packages. Dinner at ‘t Nonnetje and a room (with whirlpool!) cost €169 per person.
De Leuf – Ubachsberg (Limburg)
Young chefs cook up a storm at this restaurant in South Limburg. You can sleep and eat there for €155 per person. The village is not far from Maastricht, so the next day you can still head into the city for the most delicious zoervleisch (for example, at Café Sjiek).
Auberge du Bonheur – Tilburg (North Brabant)
For €99 per person, you can enjoy a four-course dinner here and then sleep like a baby in the hotel.
Hof Aan Zee – Dishoek (Zeeland)
Less than 400 metres from the beach, you can stay at Hof Aan Zee and eat surprisingly well for little money. Expect a peaceful stay, super-friendly staff and walks through the dunes. A weekend stay costs approximately €55. A menu costs €35.
Karel V – Utrecht (Utrecht)
A large, stately hotel right in the centre of Utrecht. In the hotel bistro, you can enjoy classic dishes made with seasonal ingredients. Ideal for lunch. For fine dining, take your time—and boy, will you be glad you booked that room. Prices vary by day.
De Librije – Zwolle (Overijssel)
You may have to save up for this, but my goodness, it is worth it. From €430 per person, you can enjoy an evening dinner here and spend the night. But then again, you are eating at a legendary three-Michelin-starred restaurant.
De Boet – Urk (Flevoland)
You will find restaurant De Boet in the port of Urk. Gault Millau and Michelin praise the restaurant for its excellent value for money. Three courses cost €39.50. After dinner, you can, for example, stagger over to ‘B&B Zicht op Zee’ in the harbour and collapse into bed for €60. If you are not hungover the next morning, you can return to De Boet for a cooking class.
Bij Jef – Den Hoorn (Texel – not really a province, of course, but consider it a bonus)
This one also requires some saving. Packages can be booked from €200. You sleep and eat in an old rectory within walking distance of the beach.
