Richard Ekkebus X RIJKS®

Never heard of chef Richard Ekkebus? That may be because he has been cooking on the other side of the world for over thirty years. At one of the best restaurants in the world, no less. This weekend, he will cook a wonderful menu together with Joris Bijdendijk at RIJKS®.

Richard is originally from Vlissingen, but it soon became too small for him. He left the Netherlands and trained under some of the world’s greatest three-Michelin-star chefs, including Alain Passard. He cooked in the best restaurants around the world and has now been executive chef of Amber at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong for many years.
Best restaurant in China
It may sound a little counterintuitive, but in the middle of the Landmark shopping centre, you can eat like a star. So well, in fact, that the restaurant ranks number 56 on the World’s 100 Best Restaurants 2018 list and number 7 on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 list. There is no other restaurant in China with a higher ranking, and the restaurant also has two Michelin stars.
Cheaper
Has Amber always been high on your bucket list? Then dining there is now much cheaper, as you no longer have to fly to Hong Kong for it. On 26 and 27 January, Richard will join forces with Joris Bijdendijk, and the two top chefs will cook a menu together featuring genuine Amber classics. According to the website, the ‘emphasis is on flavours’. I’m not entirely sure what that means exactly, but we’re very curious, Richard.
Reservations
You can also expect ‘beautiful creative presentations with different textures and colours’ on your plate. The ingredients are sourced mainly from Japan and Europe. The eight-course menu costs €180, and a few tables are still available for lunch and dinner. You can make a reservation via the RIJKS® website.
