Rotterdam: the best of the MaHo district

Every city has a cozy neighborhood that is still relatively undiscovered and where you secretly find the tastiest things. Spending a day in Rotterdam? In the MaHo district, you’ll be happily occupied all day, from breakfast to dinner.

MaHo stands for maagden van Holland, after the statue that stands on Nieuwemarkt. The district is located between Nieuwemarkt, Pannenkoekstraat and Botervloot (and the prize for the most fun street name goes to…) From Rotterdam Blaak, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to this neighborhood full of delicious food.
Did you know that these vegetables grow this way?
Sajoer
If you want to start the day in a healthy way, pay a visit to Sajoer. Go for the açaí bowl, chia pudding or overnight oats, and definitely add a smoothie. The spelt flour banana bread is also highly recommended.

Baker’s Dough
Now that you’ve had a healthy breakfast, it’s time for something sweet. Baker’s Dough is the dream of anyone who only bakes cake or cookies so they can eat the dough and lick the mixing bowl clean. Here, you order a bowl full of cookie dough, topped with ice cream and toppings. More of a cake batter person? You can order that here too. Everything is prepared in such a way that it’s safe to eat raw, which is always nice.
De Pizzabakkers
Whichever pizza you choose, De Pizzabakkers bake them all with a crispy, thin crust. With a fixed selection of classics and a rotating pizza of the month, there’s always something here you’ll be in the mood for. The motto here is ‘pizza & prosecco’, so be sure to order a glass of bubbly to complete your meal.
Pho Hanoi
In the mood for Asian food? At Pho Hanoi, you can enjoy the tastiest Vietnamese noodle soup with chicken, beef or tofu. Of course, you can also indulge in spring rolls (fresh or deep-fried) and banh mi (sandwiches). When it’s warm, definitely order a Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk too. Believe me, you’ll want one.
Tante Nel
Really, you’re simply in the mood for fries at any time of day, right? At Tante Nel, they serve luxurious versions of all your favorite snacks. How about fries with caviar or crayfish croquettes? Don’t worry, you can also just order a cheese soufflé or a (homemade) frikandel.
