Royal indulgence: Buckingham Palace shares the recipe for their Royal Cupcakes

Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Meeting At Newbury Racecourse

While we are celebrating King Willem-Alexander’s birthday today – albeit a little less exuberantly than usual – the Brits celebrated Queen Elizabeth’s birthday on Friday. And when it’s your birthday, you treat others.

That’s why the pastry chefs at Buckingham Palace shared the recipe for their chocolate cupcake. Over the past few weeks, the Royal Pastry Chefs have already shared more of their recipes. Their Easter cookies, for example.

In doing so, they hope to inspire others to start baking during the coronavirus crisis. And with success: under the hashtag #RoyalBakes, people are sharing photos of their own baking creations.

Secret ingredient

The secret ingredient in the Royal cupcakes? Vinegar. You can’t help but wonder whether that’s why Elizabeth often looks so sour, but unfortunately, that isn’t mentioned in the recipe.

The cupcakes aren’t particularly complicated to make, by the way. The decoration, on the other hand, does require a steady hand and the patience of a saint.
