Okay, we admit it: although we know full well that we should take good care of our knives and not put them in the dishwasher or leave them in the sink to wash later, we can’t deny that it sometimes happens by accident anyway. And that’s not great for your precious knife, because water + knives is killing, resulting in little rust spots. Fortunately, we have the golden tip that will make your knife completely rust-free again in no time.

The best method

There are plenty of tips for removing this common problem. After doing some research and testing a few methods, we found the method that undoubtedly works for everyone. So forget soaking your knives in vinegar and using scouring pads and abrasive cleaner. All you need is concentrated lemon or lime juice (which you can buy in bottles at the supermarket) and fine table salt.

How to remove the rust spots

Mix a teaspoon of salt with a few drops of the juice and stir until it forms a paste. Then scoop the paste onto the spots and leave it to work for 5 minutes. The reason you need to mix the acidic juice with salt is that without the salt, the juice won’t adhere to the knife and therefore won’t work. After 5 minutes, wipe your knife clean with a dry cloth (you may need to gently scrub the somewhat larger and more stubborn spots), rinse the knife under the tap and dry it thoroughly before it disappears back into the knife block, as good as new.
