Souvenir Hunting #2

At home, we rarely count a trip to the supermarket among the highlights of the day. But abroad, at least one supermarket visit is planned in the hunt for edible souvenirs to take home. What shouldn’t you miss from each country? FavorFlav browses the shelves.

Today we’re returning from Germany with: 

Ritter Sport chocolate bars

Yes, we have Ritter Sport here too. But not twenty-plus different flavors. The names alone: Honey-Salt-Almond, Ice Café, Buttermilk-Lemon, Crunchy Biscuit… That means grabbing some at the checkout of the German petrol station.

Sourdough bread

Those fancy French rolls are nice, but truly good bread is sourdough and comes from Germany. Period. Rustic, subtly sour, slightly moist on the inside and crowned with the most beautiful, crispiest crust. Eat that, baguette!

Süsser Senf

Sweet, but not sickly or honey-sweet. Süsser Senf is the perfect mix of a hint of sweetness and razor-sharp mustard. With Weisswurst, for example. But—once you’ve tasted it—even sauerkraut with Dutch smoked sausage can no longer do without it.
