Spring fever? We certainly have it. During the big spring clean, reorganizing your kitchen should of course not be left out. Follow our step-by-step guide and in no time your kitchen will feel brand new again.

1 – Transfer all your products into containers

Throw away all your tubs, bags and packaging. From now on, store your products in glass jars. Firstly, glass jars look nicer and more organized, and secondly, they keep your kitchen much cleaner. Tears in your bag of flour? A thing of the past. Rice scattered throughout the entire drawer? You won’t have to deal with that anymore.

2 – Sort through your spice drawer

There’s a good chance you have many duplicate herbs and spices. Transfer them into jars and throw away anything that has been sitting there for years; its flavor will have diminished considerably. Don’t want to throw anything away? Buy larger jars, transfer the contents and put a sticker on them. It looks nice too. Do you have space left on a wall or on the inside of a cabinet? Build your own spice rack and save storage space.

3 – Clear out your kitchen utensil and cutlery drawer

For each utensil, consider how often you use it and whether you really need it. If not, throw it away or give it away. Do the same with your pans, cutlery and crockery. Do you have too many spoons? Get rid of a few or store them in your pantry. They may come in handy when you have lots of guests over. Done? Ikea sells handy dividers for utensil and cutlery drawers, so you can organize all your items by function.

4 – Empty your freezer and refrigerator

Moving on to your freezer: bet you can throw away a lot here too? Frozen food can also spoil. Check which products are still within their best-before date and which can be thrown away. Next step: unplug it and let it defrost; you’ll see that your freezer suddenly seems much larger than it actually is. You can probably apply the same trick to your refrigerator. Empty jars, packaging and perhaps a few things that are past their expiration date. Once again, be critical and consider what you really need and what you don’t.

5 – Organize the cabinet under your sink smartly

Organize your cleaning products. Buy storage bins for your cloths, tea towels and sponges. Mount a desk organizer or hanging basket on the inside of the door and put all your cleaning products in it. Also recommended for cutting boards or lids.
