Street Food at Michelin-Star Level

At 24, Sander Spruijt of De Burgemeester restaurant in Linschoten was the youngest Michelin-starred chef in the Netherlands. You can tell, because he’s not one for a rigid approach. He wants to show everyone that you can enjoy high-level food in a relaxed, accessible way. To underline this, De Burgemeester is organizing a street food barbecue on June 30.

A barbecue will be set up in the restaurant’s courtyard, with space made for live music. Throughout the afternoon, fifteen dishes from all corners of the world will be served. Because, as Sander says: ‘Street food isn’t just Vietnamese or Indonesian. They know what they’re doing in South America and India too, and personally, I’m also a big fan of Scandinavian cuisine.’

Freestyling
Sander and his team are really looking forward to the street food barbecue: ‘We can let loose. Freestyle. We can put everything we come up with into these small dishes.’ Besides the flavor, a great deal of attention is also paid to the presentation. Think dishes served in pineapples and effects created with dry ice. The price? €65 per person. From 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., you’ll be pampered at Michelin-star level. ‘But,’ says Sander, ‘no matter how relaxed the atmosphere, hospitality and service are always impeccable. That’s something we will never compromise on.’
Expensive drinks don’t belong with street food, which is why drink prices will be reduced for the occasion. Two signature cocktails will also be served: one with gin, grapefruit, rosemary, juniper and lime, and the other with vermouth, elderflower, lime and mint.
