Supposedly healthy: chickpea fries

Chickpeas: you use them to make hummus and find them in falafel. You can also make fries with them. Chickpea fries? Yes, we were a little taken aback too.

How do you make them? Stir chickpea flour into hot stock, spoon the mixture onto baking paper, chill it, cut the set mixture into strips and deep-fry them. And voilà: done!

Healthy?
That’s what it sounds like, some people think. Enthusiastically, they share pictures of their flat, healty fries on Instagram. But the fact that these fries are made from chickpeas of course doesn’t mean they’re necessarily healthier. Because you deep-fry these fries too, and that is precisely what makes them so unhealthy. And if it doesn’t make a difference after all, we still prefer that paper cone of golden-brown potato fries with a dollop of mayo over a portion of fries made from a chickpea-and-stock mixture.
