Thirsty tales

The app that makes drinking wine even more fun

Tussock Jumper wijnapp

A boring label with a château on it? Tussock Jumper wants nothing to do with that. What do they like? Cheerful animals wearing a red sweater. And with the special app, they really come to life.

There’s nothing new about animals on wine labels performing well. Especially among women. As research has shown time and again, they simply feel much more attracted to an animal on the label than to a more traditional version featuring a posh château. With men, by the way, it works exactly the other way around. At Tussock Jumper (available at Jumbo), the animals on the labels come to life.

Beastly good idea

And not just to make wine more fun—although that’s certainly part of it. The app does have a genuine function, namely making things easier for you when you’re standing in front of an overflowing wine aisle. Especially if your wine knowledge doesn’t go beyond the basics (and hey, that’s perfectly fine!), making a choice can be quite a challenge. Animals to the rescue!

The animals from Tussock Jumper (each bottle features a different animal, always wearing the same red sweater) take you into their virtual world. They ‘jump’ out of the label and tell you about the wine’s origins and what you can eat with it. You do this by downloading the Tussock Jumper Wine app on your phone. Then scan the label and the animal comes to life.

We put it to the test with the Tussock Jumper Pinot Grigio. This wine comes from the northern Italian region where Romeo and Juliet secretly declared their love for each other: Veneto. It’s an easy-going crowd-pleaser with a crisp freshness. Packed with aromas and flavors of fresh green apples and juicy pears. Take a sip and you can taste the Italian way of life.

What did we eat with it? According to the app, Pinot Grigio is particularly well suited to dishes starring shellfish, thanks in part to its refreshing acidity. We made an irresistible spaghetti alle vongole. Just like sweethearts Romeo and Juliet: a match made in heaven!

Tasty wine with a fun factor—we like it! Tussock Jumper Pinot Grigio costs € 5.49 and is available at Jumbo.
