The best champagne comes from Aldi

Cheap alcohol can be seriously risky. Besides giving you a splitting headache the day after, it’s often undrinkable too. But Aldi proves time and again that there are always exceptions.

The German supermarket chain is on a roll. After winning major awards last year for its whiskey and gin, it’s now the bubbles’ turn. Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut was awarded the title ‘Silver Outstanding’ at the International Wine and Spirits Challenge.
Apple, brioche and peach
Decanter Magazine reviews the champagne and describes it as ‘baked apple, brioche and peach with a fine acidity and a lightly creamy flavour’. Sounds good to us. Unfortunately, the drink is not yet available at Aldi stores in the Netherlands, but you can easily order a case online for the equivalent of around €12.42 per bottle.
