The Best Dim Sum Is Coming to Amsterdam

I woke up this morning to the best news. The world has just become a little better. Or, well, from April next year, the world—or at least mine—will be a whole lot better. Chinese restaurant Full Moon is coming to Amsterdam.

Everyone who knows me can tell you about my great love of dim sum. Otherwise, I’ll tell you myself within the first five minutes of meeting you, if you haven’t already spotted the dumplings on my phone case. Yes, I’m almost thirty and I have a phone case with dumplings on it. That’s how bad it is. And everyone who loves dim sum knows: for the very best, you go to Full Moon in The Hague.

Made in China

In The Hague, Full Moon has three immensely popular locations, for good reason. The food here is all spot on. The Kwok family comes from Hong Kong, where Cantonese cuisine is most prominent. They already had a dim sum restaurant there, so you know it’s the real deal. The chefs have now also been brought over from China. Full Moon Garden, as the Amsterdam location will be called, is coming to Leidsestraat, in the building currently occupied by Saigon Caphe. They serve the best pho in the city there, but hopefully their other two locations will continue to exist.

Cantonese at its best

At Full Moon Garden, the focus is on a refined interpretation of Cantonese cuisine. That means not only dim sum in all shapes and sizes—dumplings, scallion pancakes, fresh rice noodle rolls filled with anything you could want, turnip cake, sticky rice steamed in lotus leaves, custard buns—but also plenty of roasted meat and a good selection of seafood. Shiny, crispy Peking duck, ultimate crispy pork belly, spicy crab, wonton soup… Is it April yet?
