The Food Club in 030

Carlijn Bröring, whom you may know from her website Foodless, is opening restaurant The Food Club in Utrecht this week together with hubby Jeroen. And, quite coincidentally, everything they serve is gluten-free, though you wouldn’t notice it at all.

When we ask about the gluten-free options, Carlijn laughs and tells us that everything is gluten-free. ‘It doesn’t say so in huge letters on the façade, because we don’t want to be “that-gluten-free-place”. I’ve noticed that sometimes this scares people off. But we offer a wide range for people with coeliac disease, like me, or other allergies and intolerances.’ What immediately becomes clear, though, is that you can satisfy all your cravings here. From homemade flatbread to bacon and tortilla: the menu takes you around the world.
Working and shopping
The interior of the place is cool, sleek and warm. The long planters along the wall contain power sockets with USB connections. So you can comfortably settle down here with your laptop.
At the high tables at the back, it’s lovely to enjoy a drink, with a choice of six red and white wines by the glass. At the back there’s a small shop where you can buy allergy-proof products. Of course, you’ll also find Carlijn’s cookbook here. For now, The Food Club is still a daytime establishment, but from May there should also be an evening menu.
