The Hague Goes Through the Stomach

Let’s be honest, there’s no better way to get to know a city than by eating your way through it. FavorFlav went out with Bites and Stories for a food tour through The Hague. During the tour, you visit seven different locations. With a bit of luck, you’ll spot the oldest houses in the city along the way and satisfy your ‘hunger’ with a piece of spekkoek.

At every stop, the story behind the food is told. For example, you’ll meet one of the founders of Hop & Stork Chocolate and Coffee while sampling the extensive range of chocolate. You’ll also hear the story of Vegetarische Slager about vegan wines and chicken pieces without chicken. And you’ll very likely be offered Dungelmann’s croquette by Giovanni, who has worked there since he was fifteen.

No breakfast

Breakfast before the tour isn’t necessary, and don’t make overly ambitious plans for dinner. Without even noticing, you’ll eat and drink just a little too much during the tour. From a traditional Haagsche Kakkâh (The Hague raisin bread with cinnamon paste) with a sip of Haagsche Kakkâh liqueur to start, to a dark Monniken beer as the finale.

You can book a tour from € 50 and spend an entire afternoon out and about. There is also a Wine & Dine tour, which costs € 75.
