The most annoying ‘pranks’ people pull in hospitality, #2
Recently, I wrote a piece about the pranks that are often pulled in hospitality. And I thought I knew the best—or worst, depending on how you look at it—ones. But no. I laughed so hard at the comments on Facebook that I couldn’t keep them from you. A second edition was therefore inevitable. All credit goes to you! And thanks for the laughs.
By the way, I’m really, really glad these jokes have passed me by, because I would have fallen for most of them hook, line and sinker. I really need to learn to be less gullible… But at least I’ve discovered that I’m not the only one…
The most annoying pranks people pull in hospitality
1. Having to look for a piece of string. To tie the soup with… Nooo, don’t tell me anyone actually had doubts about this. There are limits! Very funny, though.
2. Getting a bucket of candle wax from the cellar to refill the candles. I fell for this completely. I really did. Immediately. In fact, couldn’t this actually work? Put a piece of string in it and it’s as good as new? I’m going to try it.
3. Looking for the baseboard step stool to clean the baseboards. Um, well… I almost don’t dare say it, but yes: this one also sent me off on a scavenger hunt. Seriously.
4. Asking the neighbors for a strawberry huller. This one came up several times. Honestly: let me know if you actually went over to the neighbors for this and how it went (read: how hard they laughed at you).
5. Peas to fill. With tomato paste. I’m already getting twitchy just thinking about it. But yes, this really is the ideal task for that new employee in the kitchen.
6. Finely chopping granulated sugar because the powdered sugar has run out. It’s somewhat in the same category as the prank above. Interesting detail: the person who pulled this one also admitted to having fallen for it themselves. That’s the kind of honesty I love.
