New

The new Café Brun is just a little different

Cafe Brun

Since February, Utrecht has been home to a beautiful café with a great concept: Café Brun.

The new place is very open, both literally and figuratively. The huge window in the building can be opened completely, allowing you to sit half outside and half inside on the windowsill.

Interior
There is also a bar with hinges. When it isn’t busy, the bar is moved aside and used as a table. Combined with the unobtrusive taps coming out of the wall instead of sitting on the bar, it feels just like a living room. The reason for this bar is that the two owners want to break through the barrier—the origin of the word bar. This way, they themselves sit among their guests.

Nine artists helped with the interior, and it shows. From old, crooked drinks cabinets to kitschy blue-stamped wallpaper made according to an old tradition. The so-called ‘poor people’s wallpaper’ pattern was stamped for people who couldn’t afford real wallpaper. Café Brun puts its own spin on everything in the place. It is slightly reminiscent of a small pub in a sunny city like Barcelona.

Drinks
The café is a great place for drinks. A rainbow of different bottled beers is available, and on the drinks platter you can sample nine different types of French sausage, served with Turkish bread and dip. Various special beers also flow from the taps in the wall, and you can enjoy a good bitterballen here too.
