The secret ingredient to make your cheesecake even more delicious

cheesecake

Cheesecake is my Achilles’ heel. I can never say ‘no’ to it. Especially when it’s a New York Cheesecake, which I find many times more delicious than a no bake cheesecake. But there is one recipe for a no bake cheesecake that I absolutely love. And that’s all thanks to this one secret ingredient.

Thanks to Angela Lansbury

Dame Angela Lansbury, the wonderful actress who passed away in 2022 shortly before her 97th birthday, was not only a star on screen but also in the kitchen. She starred in the series Murder, She Wrote, and in 1997 Tom Culver (who was responsible for the costumes) decided to put together a book full of recipes from the cast and crew. Everyone was allowed to submit one recipe they could make best or enjoyed eating most. The result: a delightful book with 350 recipes.

Jessica’s cheesecake

Angela Lansbury played Jessica Fletcher in the series, and Jessica’s cheesecake made it into the cookbook — and this recipe is still widely praised. At first glance, it’s a very simple recipe, with Graham’s crackers, sugar, cream cheese, butter and egg. And… sour cream, a whole teacup (250 ml) per cake, no less.

Sour cream in your cheesecake

Whip the sour cream with some sugar, and before putting your cheesecake in the fridge, cover the entire top with it (in principle, you can also spread it on top of a cheesecake you’ve baked, but you’ll need to let that cool first). The combination of sweetened sour cream and cheesecake gives the entire cake a slightly marzipan-like flavor and even makes it a little fruity.

It’s definitely worth trying, because it takes your cheesecake to a whole new level—and you’re guaranteed to surprise your guests with it!
