The Spareribs Trophy has been awarded once again. This coveted prize is awarded every year by the Royal Dutch Butchers’ Association (KNS), and this year the prize went to Slagerij van Tilburg from Sliedrecht.

Jury chairman and barbecue guru Jord Althuizen reached the verdict together with butcher Peter van den Broek (winner of the 2017 Spareribs Trophy) and SVO food education manager Rinus de Rijder.

The perfect sparerib

After a meticulous selection process, involving mystery shopping and assessments of taste, smell, composition and preparation, the result was clear. Van Tilburg’s spareribs are ‘the perfect spareribs’. According to the jury, the ribs have ‘a great taste and a delicious bite’. Spareribs worth taking a detour for, then.

Passion and craftsmanship

Slagerij van Tilburg is a family business that originally started in Leiden in 1950. Passion for delicious food is highly valued there. John van Tilburg is therefore very happy with the Trophy. “Our sparerib is a purely artisanal product. This prize is the crowning achievement of our work!”.

For the undoubtedly delicious spareribs that came second and third, visit slagerij Marco van Strien from ’s Gravenmoer and slagerij Beverdam from Rijssen. In September, the search for the tastiest meatball will begin.
