The ultimate snack guide for your fave chocolate film

Johnny Depp chocolat

Being forced to stay at home isn’t easy. But you can make it delicious. I’m going to binge-watch my favorite chocolate films while enjoying a glass of red wine and a healthy portion of chocolate. Will you join me?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Whether you prefer the original from 1971 or the brilliant remake with Johnny Depp from 2005, I don’t mind. These films, based on Roald Dahl’s book, obviously belong on this list. It’s the perfect first film of your evening: colorful, flavorful and not too heavy.

In the absence of Wonka bars, Tony’s Chocolonely bars are a worthy substitute. Instead of Willy Wonka’s Chilli Chocolate Cream, we’re eating Tony’s limited edition pure chilli fudge (although we weren’t huge fans of it). Or stock up on Milk Coffee Crunch instead of Wonka’s Nutty Crunch Surprise .

Les Émotifs Anonymes

This delightful French romantic comedy is a real treat. When the highly sensitive and shy Angelique starts working at The Chocolate Mill, a small chocolate factory whose owner suffers from social anxiety and intimacy issues, love soon blossoms. The awkward love between the two awkward individuals gains flavor from their shared love of chocolate.

This comedic film about a difficult love is made even more delicious with bonbons. Small chocolate bombs appear frequently in this film. But when I think of a romantic yet semi-uncomfortable chocolate dish, I soon think of our chocolate mousse with insects in it: delicious, but still a little strange.

Chocolat

Johnny Depp and chocolate. It’s (and remains) a match made in heaven. Okay, you (and we) have seen this classic at least five times already, but on World Chocolate Day, that doesn’t matter.

What are we eating with it?

Favorite scene: the moment co-star Juliette Binoche pours Johnny a cup of hot chocolate. Few people can transform a mug of hot chocolate from comical to extremely sexy, but Johnny does it. Man, what a dream of a man. It should be clear: hot chocolate belongs with Chocolat. Preferably with Johnny, but two mugs alone work too.
