These 6 ice cream parlors are nominated for the title Ice Cream Parlor of the Year 2023
We love ice cream in the editorial office. From special flavors to perfectly executed classics, such as stracciatella ice cream. And you’re in good hands at these ice cream parlors, because they have all been nominated for the title Ice Cream Parlor of the Year 2023.
In the Netherlands, you’ll find around 1,000 ice cream parlors. Zeeland has the most ice cream parlors per resident, while Flevoland has the fewest. The Ice Cream competitions, including De Gouden IJsspatel, De Gouden IJscreatie and Ice Cream Parlor of the Year, are organized by the Vereniging Ambachtelijk IJscentrum. The flavor taking center stage this year is stracciatella ice cream, a challenging ice cream flavor that everyone makes in their own way.
Best stracciatella ice cream
The best stracciatella ice cream in the Netherlands—in total, 60 ice cream parlors took part in this competition—is sold by Mark van Gaal of IJs&Spijs in Haps, closely followed by Koen Bouwmans of De Gebroeders in Bakel, and Jurgen de Vries of De Zoete Inval in Bodegraven. All three are automatically in the running for the title Ice Cream Parlor of the Year. Mark about his winning ice cream: “We paid very close attention to ensuring that the chocolate was well balanced with the ice cream. The chocolate also had to remain whole. And when scooping the ice cream, each scoop had to contain an equal amount of chocolate—that’s what it’s all about!”

The announcement of the Ice Cream Parlor of the Year 2023 will take place on Friday, June 9, 2023. Afterwards, we’ll let you know who the eventual winner is.
