These Ingredients You’ve Already Snacked on Before Cooking

It’s a common problem for us. You’re cooking, but before you know it, you’ve already snacked on half of the ingredients. We especially can’t resist these treats.

Mozzarella
Intended, for example, as a pizza topping or for a salad, but we prefer eating it straight from the cutting board. I always buy an extra ball, because usually half of it is gone from snacking while cooking. The ends are especially popular.

Brownie batter
You can even buy cookie dough separately, but brownie batter may be even more addictive than the brownie itself. Usually, the brownie has already been halved before it goes into the oven.

Pine nuts
You have to toast them first, but after that, a large portion never makes it into the dish. While you’re still cutting the tomatoes, the pan keeps getting emptier. A salad without pine nuts is fine too, right?

Puff pastry
Okay, it does have to go into the oven first, so we’re bending the rules a little. But the rich buttery taste you get when eating puff pastry on its own is truly unbeatable.

Chocolate chips
The ones that are actually supposed to go into the chocolate chip cookies, but never make it there. They’re so small, so you’re allowed to have just one more. And another one. And okay, just one more then.

Cheesecake crust
Cookies mixed with butter—could it get any better? Especially when it’s still warm and we’ve just finished the crust, we can’t resist scraping the bottom with the spoon a few more times. It was actually too thick anyway.

Bacon
A delicious addition to your morning eggs, especially the fried or scrambled variety. In the end, your egg has become vegetarian anyway, so you might as well add extra cheese.

Whipped cream
The pie is still in the oven, but you’ve already whipped the cream. While you wait for your pie to be ready, you can’t keep your fingers out of the bowl. Before you know it, there’s no whipped cream left.
