Thirst-quencher from nightlife goes mainstream

Club-Mate, the sugar- and alcohol-free thirst-quencher known from nightlife, does just as well on the dance floor as on a warm terrace or at home on the couch.

Unique flavor

The flavor is difficult to describe, but a mix between a soft drink, an energy drink and iced tea comes reasonably close. Instead of a cup of coffee, you can also have a Club-Mate, because it contains a truckload of caffeine (20 milligrams per 100 milliliters). That’s twice as much as in Coca-Cola. This amount is pleasant if you want to dance all night, or if you have trouble waking up in the morning.

Mate extract

But what this drink is really all about is the mate extract. In South America, it is used to make tea and comes from plant leaves. Mate is a bit like green tea, but considerably more bitter. Not everyone is fond of the drink’s bitterness, which is why the German slogan is: You get used to it (“Man gewöhnt sich daran”).

In Germany, you can get it at every kiosk or pub, but in the Netherlands you have to search a little harder. Importer Dorstlust currently mainly supplies Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Their website shows you exactly where.
