This €6.40 sandwich is the best sandwich in all of Spain

Chicken, bacon, roasted green pepper and a secret sauce: that’s the winning combination of the Especial Miguelin sandwich. The sandwich is ‘two palms long’ and costs € 6.40. It received the title of ‘best sandwich in all of Spain’ during the very first Spanish sandwich competition, the Campionato de España de Bocatas. Want to try it yourself? You could easily walk right past it, but it’s really true: this seemingly simple place sells the best sandwich in Spain.

Best sandwich in Spain

The sandwich, which has been on the menu at his bar for 17 years, actually came about as a joke, Abel Moreno explains. A regular wanted to be surprised because it was her birthday. He came up with the sandwich together with his then assistant Margarita, and could never have imagined that so many years later it would win the very first Spanish sandwich competition.

What a bargain

More than 100,000 people nominated their favorite sandwich, after which a jury of food critics and chefs tasted and judged the 16 contenders. €6.40 for such a hefty sandwich. That’s a steal, honestly.

Even more delicious Spanish sandwiches

The numbers 2 and 3 also look fantastic. El de Llonganissa, at least as large as a hockey stick, contains sausage, scamorza, caramelized onion, candied cherries and pesto, among other things. You’ll find this sandwich in Valencia, at the hugely popular Cal Carrero. If you order just the sandwich, you’ll pay 8 euros—and can easily share it. The lunch deal is an absolute steal; for 2 euros more, you also get a drink.

Third place goes to the El Joselillo sandwich. Tomato, artisanal sausage, homemade bacon jam, caramelized red onion and smoked mayonnaise. Wow, that’s a lot! You can get it at La Mesedora, once again in Valencia. 11.95 euros, including a drink and coffee. What are we still doing here?
