This is the best Italian olive oil according to the olive oil competition (AIOOC)
It may have been a dramatic year for olive growers, resulting in a huge increase in the price of olive oil, but some magnificent olive oils were still produced. The harvest was recently judged during the International Olive Oil Competition (AIOOC). As is tradition, olive oil from Italy played a major role. These are the best olive oils from Italian soil.
The Amsterdam Olive Oil Competition
During the third edition of the AIOOC, fifteen countries took part, with Lebanon and Cyprus making their debut. The competition was the idea of Gregor Christiaans, who is not only an internationally certified olive oil expert, but also wrote the book Lekker vet, alles over olijfolie and makes the podcast Lekker vet. With the AIOOC, he wants to put olive oil on the map as a flavor enhancer and also provide a platform for producers, who use the event to find their way onto the international market—and therefore into our Dutch shops as well.
Alain Caron, chair of the chefs’ jury, was not only full of praise for the quality of this year’s olive oils, but also praised the event itself as “magnifique, spiritual, beautiful.”
The best Italian olive oil
The entries, 95 in total, were judged by a panel of expert jury members and top chefs. Against the backdrop of Hotelschool The Hague in Amsterdam, the oils were awarded prizes in various categories: Platinum Intense, Platinum Medium, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
