This Is the Sourest Candy in the World (and There’s Even a Challenge)

zuur challenge

I used to be crazy about sour belts. I would eat whole packs of those long, pink, sugar-coated sour strips. Resulting in tears streaming down my cheeks, a half-burned tongue and pain in my face from all the contracted muscles. In this case, I don’t want to know what happens if I try Toxic Waste. Because that is the sourest, sourest, sourest candy in the world.

And no, that’s not just a personal opinion. Delishably ranked Toxic Waste first by a mile on its list of sourest candies. Its score in terms of sourness: a 5+ on a scale of 1 to 5. Pretty intense.

What Is Toxic Waste?

Toxic Waste is—very surprisingly—sour candy. It comes in a tin with 5 different flavors: apple, black cherry, watermelon, lime and blue raspberry. You can also choose a tin with a single flavor profile. There are purple tins with blackberry, blueberry, black cherry and red grape flavors, and green tins with sour candies in green apple, lime, kiwi and melon flavors. And if you find sour candies boring on their own, why not go for the sour spray or the Slime Licker. Toxic Waste has plenty of options.

The Toxic Waste Challenge

In schoolyards all over the world, especially in America, children take on the Toxic Waste challenge. What they do: they put one or more Toxic Waste candies in their mouths and wait. Until the first person gives up, or for as long as the biggest daredevil can hold out. So no sucking or biting them apart—just endure it. TikTok is also bursting with videos of people doing the Toxic Waste challenge:

Is Such an Extremely Sour Candy Actually Dangerous for You?

You may be wondering: that can’t be good for you, right? Apparently, it’s not too bad. If you’re already used to plenty of sourness in your life, you can probably handle Toxic Waste just fine. In any case, the advice is not to eat too many candies at once or one after another. According to the packaging, that could cause ‘irritation in your mouth’. In other words, the feeling that your tongue is burning. Bizarrely, some psychologists claim that Toxic Waste candies can curb anxiety and panic. Because you concentrate so intensely on the candy’s sourness, you supposedly no longer have time for your anxiety and panic. All I can imagine now is that you would get anxiety and panic from having that much sourness in your mouth.

Would you dare to try Toxic Waste, the sourest candy in the world? Order it and join the challenge, I’d say. Maybe you’ll be cured of your sour-belt addiction right away, just like me.
