This is why you feel less hungry when it’s hot

You probably recognize this: when it’s warm, you feel less like eating. And when you do eat, the portions are smaller and the meals lighter. How does that happen?

There are two reasons that, once you know them, are crystal clear:
Body temperature
Our body needs less energy when it’s warm. It sounds simple, and it is. Your body needs energy to maintain a stable, healthy temperature of 37 degrees. When it’s cold outside, your body needs a lot of energy (food) to stay warm. When the sun is shining, your body naturally gets warm enough and you need less food. Your feeling of hunger then decreases.
Thirst
When it’s warm, you sweat more. Your body needs more fluids, so you get thirsty more quickly. Drinking plenty of fluids then gives you a feeling of fullness. And therefore less appetite.
