That David Chang understands our deepest culinary desires like no one else, he proves time and time again. Because ugly food is sometimes the best food, and so he brought #uglydelicious into the world.

The beauty of glossy sauces or simmering curries is not always easy to capture on film. But true enthusiasts see past the ugliness of dishes and still start drooling at the ugly delicious photos and videos.

The brown color of the rice noodles makes this crab just a little uglier. We love it.

Deep-fried crab with salt and chili pepper. Although the photo may not look that appealing, the description immediately makes you realize that you want a portion of this.

David didn’t give this photo a #uglydelicious, but to the untrained eye this bowl of mapo tofu can also look rather unappetizing. If you’ve ever had a bite of this super-spicy Sichuanese classic, this photo suddenly looks very delicious too.

We get even happier from an ugly delicious video than from a photo, like this crab curry from Singapore.
