Weekend tip: Amsterdam Taco Festival, Amsterdam’s first taco festival

One big fiesta with lots and lots of tacos, tostadas, cervezas, tequila and more. That’s the idea behind the very first edition of the Amsterdam Taco Festival. On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November 2021, the monumental Het Sieraad building will be transformed into one big Mexican mercado.

Mexican flavors
During the festival, (Mexican) food entrepreneurs will introduce you to ‘their’ Mexico. Pedro Mouneau will be there, for example. Years ago, he founded the well-known Los Pilones with his brother, and now he runs the successful Piloncito. At the festival, you can taste his tacos with various stews or flautas de pollo. Gabriel from the food truck Ay Caray! will also be there with his versions of alambres de pollo and fajitas de pollo.
Taqueria Lima
Or how about the lamb taco or holy pastor from Local Dealer and the chipotle braised beef tacos from Taqueria Lima? Or let yourself be surprised by the delicacies from Duck Truck, Corazón Contento, Caliente Latin Food, Caramba and Chiapas Taco Cartel. At the Sweet Heat stand, you’ll find their legendary hot honey, which tastes incredibly good with tacos.
Fresh tortillas
What is the difference between a tortilla and a taco, actually? What goes into a real Mexican tortilla and how is it made? Karla, who comes from Mexico City, has been running tortillería Taiyari in Uithoorn for years. Especially for the Amsterdam Taco Festival, she is bringing her gigantic Mexican tortilla machine to show visitors how real corn tortillas are made. And of course, you can taste the tortillas and take some home too.

Amsterdam tequila
Feeling thirsty after all those tacos? Iris and Amber from the first Amsterdam tequila brand, LALA Tequila , will provide tequila (cocktails) to help wash them down.
