Whole Foods Goes Too Far

At the American supermarket chain Whole Foods, peeled oranges are sitting on the shelves. Price? Six dollars each.

We were already familiar with plastic packaging for wrapping fruit and vegetables, but at Whole Foods in America they’re taking it one step further. There, you can now find—hold on to your hats—peeled oranges in a plastic container for six dollars each. Of course, peeling an orange can be a bit of work, but this really takes the cake. After an uproar on Twitter late last week, the supermarket chain promised to remove the oranges from its range.

The meals for astronauts aboard a space shuttle are literally fuel for the body. They need to be filling, contain enough vitamins and provide energy, that’s it. Taste? Not important. Heston Blumenthal, owner of the three-Michelin-starred restaurant The Fat Duck in England, took on the challenge of making something tasty for astronauts: a bacon sandwich. Heston is known for experimenting with flavors and textures; for example, he developed fruit with a meaty flavor, scrambled ice cream and now also a space-proof sandwich. Tim Peak, currently aboard the Space Station, was allowed to taste the sandwich. During a broadcast on English Channel 4 on March 20, you can watch what he thought of it.
